# Audiense Insights functionalities

Identify, understand, and activate the audiences that matter most to you. **Audiense Insights** empowers you to utilise social data to gain a deeper understanding of your most valuable audience segments, old and new, intelligently.

##### Functionalities

#### Audience Identification

First step when you are creating a report is to identify the audience. With Audiense Insights you can create reports based on:

- **Profile attributes:** where you can combine different filters, based on over 175 different attributes, directly using Audiense Insights or using our advanced audience manager in Audiense Connect. This is one of Audiense’s most powerful features, which allows you to define and create very detailed and targeted audiences. Using simple Boolean searches, you can filter by age, bio keyword, person/brand, followers of specific accounts, gender, interests, job title, language and location. On top of this, you can manually curate audiences.
- **Conversations:** based on any keyword, URL or hashtag.
- **Upload a text file:** Often imported from your Social Listening or CRM.
- **Other integrations:** Check with our team to learn more about other integrations you can use to create a report.

#### **Audience Segmentation**

Before creating the report and accessing your audience insights, you need to select your type of segmentation. Currently, Audiense offers two types:

- **Affinity Segmentation:** Used to analyse large audiences, such as (a global B2C audience,) and when you are looking for fewer segments with more encompassing definitions that add up to the total audience size. It is more useful when you are trying to understand audiences through the lens of an interest but that might also have overlapping interests and traits in other areas.
- **Interconnectivity Segmentation:** Used when you are looking for niche segments that are interconnected - this could be a new community that you haven’t considered before. Perfect for a really targeted approach. As well to identify ‘odd’ segments - these could be non-desired segments within your audience, such as bots or spam followers. B2C & B2B work well here. In B2B, groups can be interconnected without explicitly expressing their job role.

It is worth highlighting that our segmentation is data driven and not biased by language analysis of conversations, rather built upon what they follow and like, which is a true representation of their passion points.

#### **Uncovering the segments**

Once the report is created it is time to review the segments. The best place to do this is our Audience Breakdown section of the report. This section aims to help you understand the difference between the segments.

In this view, we offer an auto-naming suggestion, which is based on the most unique bio keywords in comparison to the rest of the segments. Remember that the segmentation is based on connections (ie:follows), so the names are suggested after we aggregate and compare the number of times the different bio keywords appear in each of the segment members.

By combining auto-naming with the different, unique, characteristics and the insights within each of the segments, you will have all the ingredients you need to re-name segments in a meaningful way to you.
